We know objects like plastic pieces float on water, but a steel nail sinks. Why does certain object float, while some other sinks? When I ask this question, my students would say as, “The density of a plastic piece is less than that of water, and hence, it floats; whereas, a steel nail is denser than water, and hence, it sinks.” Great!

Now, I try my next question as, “Yes, a steel nail sinks. Then, have you ever wondered why heavy steel ships float and don’t sink? Plain steel would sink in water immediately, as would a wrecked steel ship like the Titanic or the more recently sunken Costa Concordia in Italy. But an intact ship floats.” For this second query, I used to get lots of surprising answers from my students. That is really interesting to me! Well. We have lots of fun in the water, like swimming, floating, boating, and so on. And, when it’s too cold to be outside, sometimes, our kids love to play with the collection of toy boats in the water tub.

The science behind floating was first studied by an ancient Greek scientist named Archimedes. He discovered that an object, wholly or partially immersed in a fluid, is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. So, mathematically, the buoyant force = the weight of the fluid displaced by the object

Any object which dips into water experiences two forces: the gravity force or its weight due to gravity, which pulls it down, and the buoyant force or upward force due to displaced water by the object, which pushes it up. If these forces are equal, then the net force acting on it is zero, and thus, the object floats. So, in other words, an object will surely float, if it weighs less than the amount of water it displaces.

This explains why a steel nail sinks while a huge ship made of steel floats. The steel nail displaces only a little water, and thus, it sinks because its weight is greater than the weight of the small amount of water it displaces.

A huge ship, on the other hand, will float because, even though it weighs a lot, it is designed specifically so that they will displace enough water to assure that they’ll float easily. In short, a floating ship displaces huge amount of water that weighs more than the ship. If a ship carries heavy cargo, it dips deeper into the water to displace more water. This creates a stronger buoyancy force which is exactly as strong as the increased gravity force.

In the above illustration, the buoyant force or the upward force due to the displacement of a water/fluid is the KEY FACTOR for floating possibility, and this visible nature force can be compared to the Grace Force or Divine Shield/Ema Sithi – one of the Suddha Sanmaarga Legacies. All in nature are perfectly ordained by the Almighty ArutPerumJothi Andavar/The Almighty Vast-Grace-Light God so that everything goes in accordance with the laws of nature truth for only one cause, which is for a soul to function blissfully forever only, and nothing else!

Greater the fluid displaced by an object, the greater will be the buoyant force experienced by it, and that force helps it float well. Similarly, the greater the compassionate service we do, the greater Grace Force of Divine Shield – the Ema Sithi can be experienced, and that helps us float well over the vast ocean of birth cycles.

இறைவன் அடிசேரா தார்.

உரை: இறைவனது அடியைச் சேர்ந்தவர், பிறவியாகிய பெரிய கடலை நீந்தியேறுவர்; சேராதவர் அப்பெருங்கடலி்ல் மூழ்கி அழுந்துவார்.

Explanation in English: None can swim the bigger ocean of births, but those who are with the Feet of Almighty God.

How could we be with the Feet of Almighty God? His Holiness the Vast-Grace-Light Vallalar says that we can never be with the Feet of Almighty God by any means, but only through Anma Ozhukkam/ Soul Discipline; which refers to treating or serving all souls with high compassion as our own.

Yes. All High CompassionateTruth Seekers/Sanmargies can gracefully experience the Ema Sithi (the Divine Power/ Grace Shield), which is just like the buoyant force for floating objects as they ascend to demonstrate ‘Soul Discipline/Anma Ozhukkam) by means of selfless pure compassionate services to all needy souls (Plants, Animals and Human beings).

And, whether we could be so much needy or illiterate, and we may have huge problems like a huge ship that sinks, yet this Ema Sithi or Divine Shield or Grace Buoyancy due to our pure selfless compassionate drive/Jeevakarunya Ozhukkam will make us become very fortunate enough to float smoothly over the boundless ocean of births, by staying at the Feet of Almighty ArutPerumJothi Andavar. Well.

Let us try to demonstrate at least one selfless compassionate service on the Holy Day of Thai Poosam so that we can really stay close to His Holiness the Vast-Grace-Light Vallalar forever!
